I was excited to attend the world premier of Mary, Queen of Scots as part of Glasgow’s West End Festival.
The performance surpassed all expectations – the atmosphere and the emotion throughout the entire evening was incredible. Louise Macdonald is an inspirational and driven lady, and her performance of this original production – Mary, Queen of Scots – was very special. It was delivered with great power, poise and solemnity to a packed audience in The Mackintosh Church.
The depth of expression in Louise’s singing and the powerful accompaniment seemed to open a door into the past. Mary’s story was “retold” in a compassionate yet bold performance, although it magically felt as though we were hearing the story for the very first time.
Mary, Queen of Scots is a work that would be both critically and popularly successful if it was to tour globally, and would be a tremendous addition to Scotland’s cultural repertoire.
If it were to play again in Scotland I would certainly go and enjoy it all over again.
